Calendula
Sunshine incarnate, calendula is close to being the perfect skin herb. Super rich in skin-loving betacarotene (vit A), it has been renowned for millennia as an excellent wound healer capable of disinfecting, moving lymph, and helping skin cells knit back together smoothly.
Gotu Kola
A special herb from ayurvedic tradition, gotu kola speeds cell proliferation and helps skin produce more and healthier fibroblasts— all leading to enhanced collagen, firmer skin, faster wound healing— a true microcirculatory tonic, with an ancient history across cultures.
Chamomile
A humble herb with so many uses! Chamomile excels at quelling inflammation and bringing redness down, and its bitter cooling action is useful for occasional or chronic irritations that modern life wreaks on our skin.
Gromwell
Purple gromwell grows into a nice green bush with delicate white flowers above ground, while below its roots are coated in gorgeous purple-red pigment that is rich in Shikonin, a compound that helps soothe skin inflammation and keep the skin barrier strong and tight. It takes a minimum of 2 years for these roots to be ready to harvest, but the wait is well worth it for your precious skin.
Yarrow
A mythic herb, its latin name is Achillea for good reason— the herb that legend says Achilles himself reached for to staunch his bleeding heel. Yarrow is a wound healer like no other, capable of stopping bleeding, sanitizing, but also of helping bring fresh nutrient dense blood to help skin heal and stay radiant and supple.
Tulsi
Another important Ayurvedic herb, tulsi benefits nearly every single body system— but for skin, it is strongly antioxidant, soothing, and adaptogenic, helping skin cope with the increasingly unavoidable daily stressors and pollution of modern life—it also smells amazing :)
Comfrey
Comfrey leaf is a powerful wound healer, and contains the compound Allantoin which helps reduce inflammation and speed cell proliferation— nature’s retinol in many ways! Highly nutrient rich, this ancient plant is also a green superfood for your skin.
Marshmallow
Very few plants are naturally moistening, but among the few that are, marshmallow reigns supreme. Calming and protective, marshmallow helps to coat and soothe irritated skin along with helping modulate inflammation, helping skin return to a state of balance
Lemon Balm
Both uplifting and calming, lemon balm is a powerful nervine (an herb that soothes frayed nerves) but it is also wonderful for modulating sebum levels in skin, and is highly antioxidant, helping keep sebum from oxidizing and clogging pores. It is also supportive of a healthy immune system, which is essential for healthy skin.
