Lilac Enfleurage

This is one of the most transportive, magical things we have ever made.   Lilacs have one of the most delicate, ethereal scents of all flowers and in mid-spring, their scent wafts through the garden and instantly softens our spirits and hearts.  They hold a unique combination of romance, dreaminess, and freshness that is addictive and soothing at once.

"Enfleurage" is an old method of capturing the scent of flowers that do not lend themselves to distillation.  Lilac is one of these flowers-- its gorgeous scent doesn't translate in the way that the other plants we make hydrosols with do. Instead, one must take fresh flowers every single day and press them into a stable fat, keeping a close eye and replacing them as they fade, and carefully building the layers of scent into the oil over the course of weeks and months.

We've used fractionated coconut oil, so that the end result is a fluid oil you can take with you in your pocket and press a few drops to your wrists and temples, and for a handful of precious minutes, close your eyes and inhale the scent of fresh lilacs in the springtime.  This is not a traditional perfume that lasts for hours without fading-- this is a brief, open window to calm that lilac helps facilitate, and then it fades.

This is heart-opening energy medicine for us, and has been helpful year round and especially in the dead of winter to combat the blues.  We hope you treasure this ephemeral, once-a-year offering as much as we do, and that it helps you find peace wherever you bring it.

Must be warmed up with the heat of your body to release its subtle scent! Close your eyes, inhale after warming 5-10 drops on skin, and sit with it.

Bottled Spring Peace

I love spring and especially the smell of blooming lilacs. I can't thank Apis enough for making an enfleurage oil out of lilac. I know its a really laborious process but I feel so lucky to have this little bit of spring bottled up so perfectly. Be aware, the smell is subtle and transient much like lilacs themselves. But, any time I need a moment to relax, I put the oil on my wrists and neck and get to experience a little bit of pure spring peace. It's simply magical.
